The Gospel Story
Good News Concerning God & Humanity
The One we call God (Jesus) exists as a revelatory Prophet, a mediating Priest, and a victorious King. He grants eternal life and holiness, wisdom and perfection, to His followers (Bride) on the basis of the redemptive Gospel. His creation will behold the glory of His majesty and praise Him for it. People will live in perfect, peaceful relationship with the Triune God (Father, Son, Spirit) and one another forever. God’s revelatory love story is complete and beautiful, for light has won over darkness. The world is now made known of His love through the coming of His kingdom of heaven upon the earth. Those who belong to Christ get a taste of the kingdom on earth, but will fully enter into it when Jesus comes again.
Jesus returned (spiritually) in judgment through the destruction of the Jewish Temple in AD 70, signifying to the world the end of the Old Covenant Age and the beginning of the New Covenant Age. Jesus will return (literally) to fully establish God’s Kingdom through the new heavens and the new earth, making all things new. Every person will be judged by either condemnation or commendation based on what they’ve done and how they’ve lived. Eternal life, however, will be based on whether or not they receive salvation from Christ as Lord apart from works and by faith. Eternity is both a state of time and being (knowing God and enjoying Him forever).
Hell (eternal destruction) is choosing to not live within the rule and reign of Jesus and His kingdom, thereby rejecting the new humanity that Christ offers to recreate all people in. Hell is not being in union (peace) with God, nor wanting to. Hell is not something God takes pleasure in nor decides. Rather, God gives them over to their sinful desires and idolatrous worship, thus granting them their ultimate desire to not be united unto God. Beyond this, there is little that can be concluded as to what any kind of punishment looks like or its duration.
Heaven (eternal life) is choosing to live within the rule and reign of Jesus and His kingdom, thereby accepting the new humanity that Christ offers to recreate all people in. Heaven is being in union (peace) with God, in Jesus, through the Spirit. God takes great pleasure in being united with his Church (Bride and Bridegroom) and in deciding who that will be. God will remove the presence of sin, death, and the devil from their lives forever so they can worship Him wholly. God and humanity are now united, all in all.
